The first yes came out standing up, still chewing: automatic, polite, the sound a reliable person makes. Now the thing is on the calendar. The jaw knew first. Someone else's week has been taxed for a conversation that did not happen. The Second Yes is a vestibule. People knock. The first door opens because that is the training. Between that door and the room where a life actually happens, a delay is installed: I don't yes in the room. I yes tomorrow. Four questions live in the wait. Spoken lines cover work, family, money, the body, and the thread that will not die. A chosen yes is a clean door. A reflex yes is how a person disappears. This is ordinary social fear, not a safety plan. A house where no gets someone hurt needs more than a file. Inside these pages, the first yes can be revised until the second door opens. After that, the word is kept, or renegotiated like an adult, not like a hostage.
